Mental illnesses are a large public health problem worldwide. The World Health Organization
(WHO) considered that depression is the second largest cause of disabilities in the
world (Lopez, Mathers, Ezzati, Jamison, & Murray, 2006; Ferrari et al., 2013). Patients
with depression reported that they received emotional support, encouragement to self-care,
and activity support from family and friends (
Sussman et al., 2014
). Older people who live alone were more likely to report feelings of depression than
those who live with a spouse or other family members especially when they lack of
interactions between the neighborhoods (
Stahl et al., 2017
). Older Thai people with depression expressed that they were existentially alone,
lacking motivation to live like as they were living with meaninglessness. They lacked
energy to do everything, and wanted to lie down almost the whole day. Moreover, they
were automatically thinking that they did not want to live, and planning to die (
Kleebthong et al., 2017
